How the 500 Hour Journey Works

The comprehensive teacher training program at Rewind Pilates integrates online with hands-on  studio experience, tailored to meet the needs of both the studio and the trainee:

• Theoretical study and coursework are conducted online, providing flexibility for trainees to  learn at their own pace and convenience.

• The curriculum consists of 52 weekly lessons, ensuring a comprehensive and structured  learning path. We recommend completing one lesson per week, trainees have the flexibility to  manage their schedule and catch up as needed.

• Trainees receive personalized guidance on anatomy and exercise analysis from Mara Seivers,  the creator of Pilates Encyclopedia (PE). Her expertise enhances trainees’ understanding of  Pilates, supported by interactive discussions within the PE community.

• In-studio practical hours are overseen by Teresa Julian, ensuring trainees receive hands-on  instruction and individualized support. Teresa will be available to clarify exercises and  provide teaching insights throughout the training process.

Our flexible approach accommodates varying schedules and commitments, making our  program accessible to aspiring Pilates instructors with diverse backgrounds and  responsibilities.

Program Hours

We are offering the Pilates Encyclopedia Teacher Training Program that oversees trainees  investing 500 hours in their journey. This aligns with the minimum requirements set by the  National Pilates Certification Program (NPCP), preparing the trainee to sit confidently for the  exam and earn certification as a Nationally Certified Pilates Teacher.

The breakdown of the hours trainees are expected to complete by the end of the program:

Coursework (150 hours)

This consist of lectures, study, and homework assignments focused on deepening your  understanding of Pilates Principles, human movement, and analysis of Pilates exercises,  including programming, sequencing, and special populations.

Observation (114 hours)

Trainees observe certified teachers as they engage with students in various class settings.  Participants start logging observation hours from the day they enroll. These hours can be  fulfilled by observing classes either in studio or online (80 hours must be live in-person or live  online. The rest can pre-recorded.) These hours are crucial for gaining valuable insights and  emulating best practices.

Unsupervised Self- Practice (75 hours)

Trainees practice independently at home or at Rewind to refine Pilates skills and  understanding. These hours are logged immediately upon enrollment.

Supervised Self- Practice: Group Classes (25 hours)

Trainees have to take at least 25 classes at the studio. These structured group sessions immerse in class dynamics and Pilates principles.

Self-Practice Check-Offs (15 hours)

The trainee will demonstrate their exercise proficiency, and Teresa will give feedback.

Teaching Practice (50 hours)

The trainee will gain experience teaching Pilates. The studio will be available to use the equipment. There will need to be a determination which days and hours the studio is available for teaching practice.

Teaching Check-Offs (15 hours)

The trainee will demonstrate their mastery of guiding students through all exercises and will receive feedback from Teresa.

Assistant Teaching (20 hours)

The trainee will assist Teresa or other instructors during group classes, gaining practicalteaching experience and refining teaching cues. Trainees are discouraged from using verbal cues, but can practice hands-on skills, help setup and adjust equipment and demonstrate exercises.

Exam Prep Mentorship (5 hours)

One to one mentorship by Teresa preparing the trainee for the certification exam, covering exam content, strategies, and practical application of Pilates principles. These hours will be kept until the end of the program. They can be used to work on any of the trainee’s weak areas.

My goal is to provide a high-quality program at a manageable cost, with the objective of having more comprehensively trained instructors at Rewind Pilates and in the Lynchburg community sharing the magic of the Pilates method.

Please note:

Completion of the program does not assure you will pass the National Pilates Teacher Certification exam: but, it will certainly prepare you to do so.

Some trainees may want to sit for the exam others may want to use the training to deepen their own practice. Regardless of your intention to certify, you may advertise that you are comprehensively TRAINED at the completion of all of the requirements.

I cannot assure that completion of the training assures you a contract for providing services at Rewind Pilates. Once you complete the training you will be qualified to sit for the NPCP exam. Your choice of how and where you use the training and your certification is up to you. If you wish to train at Rewind Pilates after your certification, I will be glad to discuss an independent contractor relationship and working hours in a contract negotiation.
